Printing on small quantities of duplicated CDRs and DVDs differs from printing on larger quantities of replicated discs in several ways. The processes for CDR/DVD-R printing are done using ink-jet or thermal printers and the file specifications and size of the printable areas can be slighty different than those for replicated discs.

For color printing we use 2 different inkjet surfaces, a white surface and a matte silver surface. The choice is a matter of taste and how close to the center you want to print. Be aware that color printing with ink-jet printers will not give you a PMS color match. If you have printed material (brochures, inserts, etc.) that will be used in conjunction with your CD or DVDs you should get a test print before placing your order to see if the printed disc color is close enough to your other materials' color to meet your needs. Allow extra time for both the test print approval process and the actual printing of color labels.
1. Determine the type of disc surface you prefer, white or matte silver. DVDs are ONLY available in white. The silver disc CD is slightly reflective so it has a little bit of a "shine" to it. If your image has any white in it, use the white disc. Inkjet printers cannot print white.
2. Choose the appropriate PDF template to create your image with.
3. Remember to delete any key lines, guide lines, or templates before saving as a 300 dpi .jpg. The image you send needs to be ONLY what you wish to see printed.
4. If your CD or DVD label has a full-color background let the color bleed across the center non-printable area.

Black printing can be done with either an ink-jet process or a thermal process. The CDs used for thermal printing are a mirrored silver surface CD and work best when printing only text. With an image that has gray-scale in it (photos, some logos, etc.) you must print using the inkjet process. For inkjet printing you have a choice of either a white or matte silver surface CD. The white disc allows you to print closer to the center of the CD.
Please note: An ink-jet printed disc that requires a solid black background (as with reversed out text) will be billed at the full color printing rates.
1. Determine the type of disc surface you prefer, thermal or inkjet. Full black images or those with grayscale must be inkjet printed.
2. Use the template on the far left for white inkjet surface CD or DVDs. For silver inkjet or thermal print CDs (not DVDs) choose the appropriate template.
3. Remember to delete any key lines, guide lines, or templates before saving as a 300 dpi .jpg. The image you send needs to be ONLY what you wish to see printed.
4. Email your .jpg to Tim at cdr@crystalclearsound.com |

We do inkjet printing only for biz card and mini CDs. Both types come with a clear vinyl sleeve. Please note the extra "ring" in the center of the biz card CD. We recommend that the background color of your label art be printed in that area.
1. Choose the appropriate PDF template to create your image with.
2. Remember to delete any key lines, guide lines, or templates before saving as a 300 dpi .jpg. The image you send needs to be ONLY what you wish to see printed.
3. If your image has a full-color background let the color bleed across the center non-printable area.

Printing for short runs of color inserts (the front of the jewel case) and traycards (the back of the jewel case, under the CD) is done using a high quality laser printer. We print on 80 lb. gloss text paper. The DVD wrap insert fits a standard AMARAY style DVD case. You can email us a completed image that is laid out to the specs on this page or we can assist you with your layout at our facility. Layout rate is $50/hour with a 1/2 hour minimum.
1. Determine if your jewel case insert is to be a 2 panel (a single piece of paper) or a 4 panel (a sheet with a fold that gives you 4 faces to print on.)
2. Choose the appropriate insert template. Below...
3. Email your .jpg to Tim at cdr@crystalclearsound.com
